NetherRealm Studios unveiled the first footage of the next installment in the Mortal Kombat series game at a conference before public and media in Los Angeles and broadcast live on the platform Twitch
Hundreds of people gathered in Los Angeles for the official unveiling of Mortal Kombat 11
Warner Bros. Certainly, games did not half! An unveiling in a big way, with dozens of guests and several stations of entertainment available to fans of the series.
The most passionate could even get a tattoo on the spot!
Above all, the public had the opportunity to try premiere MK11.
Ronda Rousey is Sonya Blade
Information had leaked on the web last week, and it was made official. Ronda Rousey will lend his voice to the iconic Sonya Blade.
The wrestler and actress, former champion of judo, and mixed martial arts, swear have been itself inspired by Sonya Blade when she was young. An ideal woman she tried to reproduce, she said. Today, it is a dream for Rousey to camp the role of this special forces soldier.
A ton of new features
Under a triumphant welcome from fans on the spot, the co-creator from the series Ed Boon presented the great innovations of the 11th main game of the franchise.
A comprehensive system of variations of characters is now in place. Everything can be customized, the costume to arms through special attacks. Each piece of equipment can also be improved in order to provide different bonuses during battles. In short, each will have its own Scorpion!
The most important novelty point of view combat strategy is certainly the addition of the fatal blows, attacks of last resort who inflict high damage. When a player ends up with less than 30% of his life points, it can trigger this devastating assault. On the other hand, once consumed, the attack can’t be used in any combat, not only the round. Knowing when to launch this attack will be crucial on the competitive scene.
The super meter of Mortal Kombat X disappears as for him to make room for two separate bars. An offensive and a defensive, that improve certain special attacks.
Baraka, a favorite of fans of the series, making a comeback that wasn’t a playable character in Mortal Kombat X. It is also the fighter who has generated the biggest reaction from the crowd during the presentation.
Geras, new character from Mortal Kombat 11
8 characters have been confirmed during the conference, including the new boy Geras, who can control the weather and sand. The highlights are of course all still present. Raiden, sub-zero, Scorpion, Sonya Blade and Skarlet are back. Shao Kahn will be available as a pre-order bonus. In all, there should be around 25 fighters to choose from.
Journey through time
The main antagonist of the story mode is called Kronika. His manipulation of the time change several key events of the narrative of the series.
Thus, some characters will travel through time and meet younger versions of themselves.
Mortal Kombat is known to have a history rich and full, but far too complex for a non initiated as the author of these lines.
On the other hand, those who were able to follow the narrative of the series since the last quarter of a century will probably understand what is happening in the kinematics of the prologue, also unveiled at the event.
Bloodier than ever
Almost unimaginable thing, the folks at NetherRealm again once pushed the limits of the bloody. They are particularly proud of it. For those who are concerned about violence in video games, is not here that you will be safe.
The famous fatalities at the end of a fight are more graphic and cinematic than ever. Severed heads, hearts torn, gouged eyes and broken spines can cause some gagging.
In short, you must love the exaggerated, almost parodic violence. An intrinsic aspect of the series and fans love.
Those who pre-order the game will have access to a beta on March 28. Mortal Kombat 11 will be available April 23 on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
Mortal Kombat 11: Gameplay, characters and story elements revealed
The fans were waiting for him and the curious will turn to the presentation that has long defined the franchise. NetherRealm invited several members of the community of games of combat, creators of coutenu in entertainment and costumadiers/costumadieres for the official unveiling of Mortal Kombat 11.
It’s January 17 at 1:30 Eastern time in Los Angeles that NetherRealm Studio has officially revealed many details about Mortal Kombat 11. Expected since E3, the game was confirmed during the Game Awards 2018 by the co-creator of the series, Ed Boon. Mr. Boon confessed wanting confirmed the game at E3 but decided to hold back. Since then, good numbers of leaks and clues led to MK11.
Among the characters, Shao Kahn is the bonus pre-order but during the playable portions, we quickly saw the presence of Hanzo “Scorpion” Hasashi, Baraka, Skarlet, Sonya Blade, Geras (newcomer), and ‘Sub-Zero’ Liang Yuan. During cinematic sequences and various videos available, we can see Liu Kang, Kung Lao and Kitana, as well as the new boss: Kronika. History will have an emphasis on travel in time while Raiden, now master of the NetherRealm, has altered the balance between what is right and wrong. Kronika would therefore seek to take care of everything. For example, some characters will face their own versions including Liu Kang who confronts ‘Dark’ Liu Kang.
Fact to remember: none of the new Mortal Kombat X fighters is present at the moment.
The ‘Black Dragon’ Kano was seen in the background on one of the stages and when Tyler Lansdown, a short passage in Kabal was shown with the confirmation of new information coming January 30 next from Kombat Kast, presented by Mr. Lansdown . Steve Blum and Richard Opcar resume their respective roles of Sub-Zero and Raiden from Mortal Kombat X (and Injustice 2).
The worst-kept secret was evidently the case of Sonya Blade. It will be officially dubbed by Ronda Rousey, ex UFC now professional wrestler. The face of Sonya is also modeled from the features of the professional athlete.
This isn’t a weapons system that is present for Mortal Kombat 11 but an overhaul of the system of variation. This time, the characters will be fully customizable from pieces that you will unlock. Thus, the game notes an interesting aspect of Injustice 2. So, we can make our own Scorpion with different katanas, the spear “Get Over Here!”, the mask, the color according to the available evidence.
Without getting too technical, each character will have access to offensive and defensive options with specific gauges of the two categories. The game is also much more visceral in its presentation with small cutscenes with comparisons showing the wounds, fractures and impalements idling somewhat replacing the X – Ray. The new mechanics, Fatal Blow, allows the character to trigger a finisher attack if the player is 30% of remaining life gauge. Is not a mechanism related to the system of gauge as in previous titles of the NetherRealm but mechanics to finish the opponent and win the round or ensure a chance to get back into the game. It also confirms the presence of the Brutalities and that would be Mortal Kombat without the Fatalities, of course.
What’s new for the gameplay of Mortal Kombat 11
Mortal Kombat 11 character selection screen
If you are familiar with MK9 and MK10, offers the 11th episode renewal for its gameplay.
Each character has 3 variations, offering a different style of play. These variations can be customized in the Customize menu (see below).
The stamina bar to run and make interactive attacks with the décor, disappeared. In fact, it is no longer possible to run.
The special bar comes to be replaced by two special bars: offensive (horizontal bar) and defensive (vertical bar). It will be used for EX attacks, make combos breakers or achieve a defensive counter-attack (called Flawless Block). These two bars regenerate over time.
A new technique named “Krushing Blows” allows to reduces the life of the opponent, for a period of time. Similar to the fatal shots in Soul Calibur 6, you must meet certain conditions to activate it. Besides, the “Krushing Blows” can only be used once per game.
The “Fatal Blow”replaces the X – Ray attack. As soon as you reach 30% of bar, you can launch a special attack, leaving a lot of damage. Only downside, you can use it only once per game… If it connects. In case of failure, the attack will not be used for a while.
Finally, each character will have access to two Fatalities and several Brutalities. And of course, they are just too violent.
Analysis of the comprehensive roster of Mortal Kombat 11
In total, there will be 25 characters base. There are more with the future DLC, but nothing is on at the moment.
After the game’s announcement and trailers, here’s the current roster:
- Sonya Blade
- Geras (new character)
- Shao Khan (DLC pre-order)
- Kung Lao (Trailer)
- Liu Kang (Trailer)
- Kitana (Trailer)
- Warriors (Trailer)
- Kabal (tease during the conference)
- Kronika (new character: possible boss in the game)
For the 11th installment, two characters are back: Baraka and Skarlet. While he was a cameo that will be a victim in the MKX, the Tarkatan Warrior is back, with three variations which, including one where he can use his flag as a weapon, and certainly to boost his attacks.
Skarlet, is back after MK9 as DLC. The blood mage keeps her fighting style mixing traps and attacks in long distance. Aileurs, its look has drastically changed, forgetting her outfit similar to the Edenian Warrior, than similar to Mira’s Killer Instinct.
“Sonya Blade is going Rowdy”
Another detail is for Lt. Sonya Blade: not in its appearance, but in the interpretation. For the English version, Sonya is played by “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey. The current women’s champion in Monday Night Raw and Hall of Famer in the UFC, will take the reins of the most badass military personnel (after Cammy). Besides, it shows the evolution of Ronda in how to interpret, especially since I recently seen in its promos to the WWE. And she arrives to join his favorite character, especially since she had participated in Motion Capture for Sonya (seriously, this key arm is totally stoned).
